Here is a first draft of the descriptions of the poses. Â Follow the instructions on how to come into and out of them given in the class.
Supt Baddhakonasana
 Reclining Bound Angle Pose:
Laying back over a bolster with the head and neck supported by a flat blanket. The soles of the feet are together and the knees wide. We sometimes have a strap around the lower waist near the groins and around the ankles – to stop the feet slipping and to allow the groins to relax.
Sukhasana Â
Cross legged sitting prayer pose:
Sitting on some height with the legs crossed comfortably in front – feet on the floor. Hands in ligthly in prayer position and the spine straight – shoulders broad and the eyes averted downwards to the yogic heart.
Samastiti Â
Mountain pose:
Standing with both feet together and arms by the side pointing downwards.
Urdhva HastasanaÂ
upward hands pose:
Standing with both feet together and reaching tips of fingers upward with straight arms.
Urdhva Baddhanguliyasana Â
Upward bound finger pose:
Interlocked fingers pressing palms upwards with arms straight
NamaskarasanaÂ
Prayer position:
Palms together, Base of thumbs touching the ‘heart’, Fingers lightly touching, Head vertical, Eyes straight ahead, parallel to the floor, then eyes turning downwards.Â
Urdhva Hasta Namaskarasana
From upward hand pose, Urdhva Hastasana as above, bring the palms together.
Utthita Hasta Padasana
Extended hands and feet position:
Legs wide, Arms outstretched parallel to the ground.
Parsva Hasta Padasana
Turned or Sideways Extended hands and feet position:
As above, legs wide and arms outstretched but with right (or left) foot turned out, Body faces the front.
Utthita Trikonasana Â
Extended Triangle pose:
Legs wide, Â Feet turned right, Torso extended to right. Â Right hand on shin. Â Left hand straight up, palm facing front.
Virabhadrasana II Â
Warrior 2 pose:
Wide legs, Bent right leg so that knee is directly above the ankle (not behind – too wide; not in front – too narrow), Torso is vertical – reach back with the left hand, Arms extended parallel to the floor and in line with the legs, Â Face forward to look beyond the right hand.
Utthita Parsvakonasana Â
Extended Lateral Angle pose:
Come to Warrior 2 pose as above. Â Extend torso to the right, Place right hand on the floor, Â Reach left hand straight upwards. Â Palm faces the front.

Dandasasa Â
Staff pose:
Sitting with legs outstretched, feet together and torso vertically up, supported by hands beside hips.
Urdhva hasta dandasana Â
Upward hands in staff pose:
Sitting with legs outstretched and hands reaching up vertically above shoulders.
Padangustha dandasana Â
Gripping the toes in staff pose:
Sitting with the forefingers wrapped round the big toe and the torso straight up vertically.
Ardha Halasana preparation  Chatuspadasana using chair  i.e. preparation for Half Plow pose:
Shoulders on some height, neck and head free, holding the chair legs firmly, heels on the front of chair seat, pressing the pelvis up and forward.
Savasana (Supta sthiti)Â
Corpse pose:
Laying flat on the floor relaxing completely feet out to the side and with the eyes closed.
Namaskara in sukhasana Â
Hands in ‘prayer’ position sitting upright.
Used as a finalisation position and greeting (Namaste), in this case farewell.
